Camera and Lighting Equipment
Video camera setup with GoPro Hero 3 camera is shown on the left below.
Lighting is provided by Knogg Qudos LED lights. The units are placed away from the camera to minimise back scatter and the single unit immediately next to the camera is used for confined spaces and close-up work.
Video capture has more recently been accomplished using a DJI Osmo video camera. (Right below).
Used either as a stand-alone unit or attached to the SeaLife DC2000 housing.
The camera, originally developed for use with drones, is mechanically stabilised by a system of servo powered mini gimbals and is capable of recording high quality 4K video at up to 60 frames per second or still images at 12 Mega Pixels.
Still images and video have been obtained using the SeaLife DC2000 camera as shown below.
Images are stored at 20 Mega Pixels in either JPEG and/or RAW formats.
High Definition Video is recorded in 1080p format at 30 or 60 frames per second.

The camera rig set-up that I use comprises of a Sealife DC2000 camera and two Sea Dragon 2300 Auto video lighting units mounted on a dual tray with four Flex-Connect adjustable extensions. For standard operation when capturing images or video I use a SL051 0.75x wide angle lens to compensate for the refractive index of sea water or an interchangeable SL976 Super Macro lens for close-up work.
Knogg Qudos units mounted on the top of the housing provide additional lighting for macro (close-up) images or used in restricted locations for both image and video capture
These lights are interchangeable with the DJI video camera unit which can be operated simultaneously to acquire continuous video coverage during the dive.
Both units are certified to a depth of 60 metres.
